Where to Stay in Palma de Mallorca
Your guide to the best areas and accommodation types
Palma de Mallorca splits into three clear zones. The medieval walled core hides the island's most atmospheric hotels inside converted palaces and sandstone mansions. Santa Catalina runs younger, louder, and cheaper on the food front. Portixol delivers boutique calm two kilometers east toward the beach. The hotel market is sharply seasonal.
Old Town and Born rates in summer can triple winter prices. Beach-strip hotels on Playa de Palma stay more stable year-round.

A 19th-century neighborhood west of the Old Town walls. Wrought-iron balconies and painted shutters face the famous covered market. Four kilometers of pale sand roll east of the city center, lined by hotels that shift from loud all-inclusive resorts near El Arenal to calm adults-focused places closer to town. The water stays shallow and turquoise. Sunscreen and salt wind hang thick in the air. Cyclists buzz the promenade from dawn. Palma de Mallorca's beach heartland is for travelers who want sand at the door and don't need to be inside the historic center.

Booking Tips
Insider advice to help you find the best accommodation.
Properties like Palacio Ca Sa Galesa and Hotel Born carry under twenty rooms. For a July or August stay in Palma de Mallorca's Old Town, booking eight to ten weeks ahead is the baseline, not a precaution. Rooftop and Cathedral-view rooms go first.
April, May, and October in Palma de Mallorca offer warm sea temperatures, uncrowded streets, and rates thirty to forty percent below summer peaks. The Cathedral is quieter, restaurant tables are easier to get, and the late afternoon light on the sandstone is at its most golden.
Playa de Palma hotels absorb last-minute bookings fairly well outside August because supply is large. Old Town boutiques and Portixol properties do not. They fill from repeat guests and early planners. Treat them as separate markets with separate lead times.
Palma de Mallorca's independent boutique hotels routinely offer lower rates, room upgrades, or late checkout for direct bookings. The larger resort chains on Playa de Palma respond similarly to direct inquiries in shoulder and low season.
When to Book
Timing matters for both price and availability.
Reserve Old Town boutiques eight to ten weeks ahead for June through September. Playa de Palma beach hotels need four to six weeks minimum for July and August stays.
April, May, and October are ideal, warm, uncrowded, and noticeably cheaper across all Palma de Mallorca neighborhoods. Two to three weeks ahead covers most properties without risk.
November through March brings deep discounts across the city. Walk-ins are accepted at most properties outside the Christmas and New Year window, when even winter rates spike briefly.
Three weeks covers shoulder and low season without stress. Eight weeks is the safe minimum for anything in the Old Town or Portixol during summer.
